Welcome to Aberdeen Tramps and Ither Weel Kent Fowk! Make yourself comfy on that park bench, grab your bottle of Buckfast and find out who's hot and who's not in the ever-changing world of the vomit encrusted streets of Aberdeen!

Street Entertainers will be recognised at last!
Religious Fanatics outside Markies will know someone is listening!
And our colourful tramps will no longer be forgotten!

Join me in my fond remeniscence of The Granite City's most colourful characters and street entertainers - for I'm sure you'll all agree a good political rant or a singing tramp is as worthy of a cheering crowd as the best buskers...

The Materialistic Tramp

No idea who this chap is, but he really is quite a character...

Often spotted in and around town with what can only be described as STUFF.

Sort of like Propane Pete and his props, I've seen him about with a kettle and a large 1980's keyboard, but most recently he was spotted by me and my mate one saturday night.
First of all he was pushing a small pink childs bike past Top Shop, with all glittery streamers hanging from the handlebars and a little tinkly pink bell... Then later on he was sat on the church steps next to Gilcolmstoun Tramp with whom he was sharing a can of special brew.

He was hugging his pink bike guardedly and glaring at everyone (apart from Gilc Tramp who can clearly be trusted with small pink bicycles) in case they might try to take it from him!

Is this not the tall, thin guy who has Parkinson's Disease? I know this because he asked me for a tenner "because I've got Parkinson's Disease and I can't work anymore" a couple of Christmases ago. He was outside the Jobcentre on Dee Street. I assumed that he was an eBay/Car Boot Sale entrepreneur now as I've never seen him with the same item twice.

Could well be! I've seen him described on other Aberdeen sites and he is described as having various afflictions depending on who's doing the post.

The description of "eBay/Car Boot Sale entrepreneur" makes me think it must be him though :D

Last sighting of the guy I know of was recorded on my colleagues mobile phone. Footage shows him charging at some speed through a crowd of late night revellers at about 11:30 on a saturday night, with a desktop pc under his arm.
I had seen him earlier that night outside Hogshead with what looked like a curtain rail.

There's footage of this guy!? cool! don't suppose there's any photos going about? Tramps and so on may be plentiful in Aberdeen, but they're so damned elusive when you've got a camera on you. Perhaps I should upgrade my phone to one with a camera...

This guy is a complete star though. It's just the pink Barbie bike we saw him with... cracked me up :)

My daughter first brought this guy to our attention a few years ago and she game him the name of "Running Man" simply because he was always seen running through the town with something under his arm that he had found in somebodys bucket. In fact, his favourite hunting grounds are outside any Sue Ryder or Oxfam shop where they have disposed of their excess "stuff". We have seen him trying to sell his wares to the taxi drivers in the Chapel street taxi Rank. The poor guy is suffering some affliction which affects his limbs but he also has very scary piercing blue eyes.

I was watching C4s "Space Cadets" last night, and one of the contestants "Ryan" looks a hell of a lot like the guy.

I havent seen him about town for a while. Maybe that explains it...

Material Man was seen running along Union Terrace and up Union Street last night at about 11 pm carrying a blue ironing board and four carrier bags full of "stuff". The bags looked heavy and he gave up for a rest at the Music Hall where he set up his ironing board beside the Art shop and pretended to "Iron" some clothes. The traffic lights turmed to green so I had to move on. If only I had my camera with me in the car. Noticed his big curly mop of hair has ben cropped short so he is not so easy to identify although the ironing board is a dead give away.

I saw this man just last week. He was pushing an office chair on wheels with one hand, what looked like a drain pipe under the other arm and was wearing a red crash helmet. Interesting...

Wish we had a photograph of that last entry. Spotted Material Man in Guild Street on Friday night around 17.30. He was wearing a black full length skirt with a split up the back (nice legs) and a blue blouse. Apart from wearing woman's clothes the other strange thing was he wasn't carrying anything !

I saw this chap on 20/06/2006 walking down Esslemont Ave checking through the Wheelie Bins. He was wearing White Trainers with a "Brazil" flash on them, Black tights, a long black dress and a knee-length pink dress. He was carrying a silver box of some sort. He looked at me and said, "It's Christmas" in a cheery voice.

Not joking, i wish I was, I saw him running/stumbling at speed up George street wearing a skirt, blouse and pearls, with lipstick on - and wait for it he had a brass chandelier under his arm!

I used to see Duncan all the time as i lived in the green and he spent A LOT of time there. The funniest items i saw him with at one time were an old hoover, lampshade on his head, and an old apple box with one pink roller boot in it, it was hilarious!
He did have parkinsons but other problems aswell.
So sad to hear he has passed, he was an absolute legend.

A few years back my auntie who lives in a flat on esslemont avenue told us a story about this boy. He was apparently raking in the big black bins on the other side of the street wearing a pink tutu and done up like a woman, He also had a prosthetic leg under his arm. She went to work and apparently they all knew about him, true legend sad to hear he's gone.
